Abstract
The features that reading and listening /viewing texts should hold and which genres should be included in course book has been stated in great detail in Primary Turkish Course (6th, 7th and 8th grades ) curriculum. On which genres (episode, argumentation, proclamation and poems ) the students would write texts is clarified in writing acquisition as ‘writing texts on different genres. In course books, these acquisitions has been referred in the presentation of reading and listening /viewing texts and while giving writing tasks. However, there are differences between reading and listening /viewing texts and the texts of writing tasks in terms of genres and genre class. The main purpose of this study is to locate whether there is a consistency between reading and listening /viewing texts and the texts of writing tasks in terms of genre by supposing that students should be able to write texts of the same genre more consciously after reading and listening a certain genre . For this reason, 9 Turkish teacher’s books belonging to 3 different publications, the genres appearing in reading and listening /viewing texts and the texts of writing texts have been classified in general and according to curriculum sequency. After the genres were analysed, the data and problems have been determined. Consequently, it has been detected that there are several problems in classification, genre detection and the function of genres of reading and listening /viewing texts in course books and there is little consistency between reading and listening /viewing texts and the texts of writing tasks. In some of the books, it has been determined that compulsory genres stated in curriculum were not included in reading and writing parts. Some suggestions have been made according to the data provided.
