THE IMPACTS OF THE TÂRÎH-İ NİŞÂNCI PAŞA(lit. The History of Nişancı Pasha) OF RAMAZÂN-ZÂDE ON THE TEVÂRÎH-İ ÂL-İ OSMÂNS (lit. The History of the Ottoman Dynasties)

When the history of the foundation of the Ottoman State and the dates of the writings about the historiography reaching up today are compared, it is observed that historiography in the Ottoman State was initiated in much later periods. However, by the time, the development of historiography accelerated particularly with the reign of Sultan Bayezid II (1481-1512), during which the examples of tradition of Tevârîh-i Âl-i Osmâns were initiated. Meaning, in today's terms, The History of the Ottoman Dynasties, in this type, there are numerous pieces of information in political, military, social, and economic fields experienced in the Ottoman State since its foundation. The best examples of this type are observed in Kemalpaşazâde, Hasan Bey-zâde and Peçevî Efendi. Besides the Tevârîh-i Âl-i Osmâns in the historiography, the writings of general history also have an important place in the Ottoman historiography. This type of writings, in general, included a wide array of issues ranging from the history of humanity since the creation, Islamic history, pre-Ottoman period, to the Ottoman State with its contemporary states. This type of writings evaluated the Ottoman State in a holistic approach, while providing an opportunity to compare it with the other stated in the world. Examples of this type were committed to paper by authors like Ramazân-zâde Nişancı Mehmed Paşa, Hazerfen Hüseyin Efendi, and Cenabi. The aouthors of this first type, which has an important place in the historiography, had been influenced from each other in terms of both content and the presentation style of the information. In this study, it was investigated how the authors benefited from the Târîh-i Nişâncı Paşa of Ramazân-zâde in their own writings, in which they used it as a reference, like Hasan Bey-zâde Ahmed Paşa in his Hasan Bey-zâde Târihi, İbrahim Peçevî Efendi in his Peçevî Târihi, and Nevʻî-zâde Atâyî in his Hadâikuʼl-hakâʼik fî Tekmiletiʼş-Şakâʼik (in the addendum named Nevʻî-zâde Atâyîʼnin Şekâʼik). In an attempt to determine the style of benefiting from this writing by means of comperative examples, it was investigated which issues were directly quoted, which were quoted in meaning, and which were quoted via hazif method (rephrasing sentences without using the letters with dots in the Ottoman language) Thus, concerning the authors of Tevarih-i Âl-i Osmans and General History, their styles of benefiting from each other were investigated under two types.

Ottoman Historiography, Tevârîh-i Âl-i Osmâns, Ramazân-zâde, Târîh-i Nişâncı Paşa.
