Relationship between Work Values Perception and Turnover Intention of Travel Agency Employees

Abstract
Employees are one of the most important factors that influence the performance of enterprises operating in the tourism sector. Motivated employees have a direct impact on service quality, customer satisfaction and customer loyalty. Employees' perceptions of their work values are prominent in the provision of motivation. Within the framework of their work values, there may be an increase or a loss in motivation depending on the employees' expectations from the enterprises and reaching their goals. Based on this, it is thought that employees with low perception of work values will have an increase in the tendency to leave work. This study aims to evaluate the relationship between employees' perception of their work values and their intention to leave. For this purpose, data were collected by the questionnaire which was developed based on literature. The questionnaire was applied to the employees of the travel agencies operating in the Black Sea region (Samsun, Giresun, Ordu, Trabzon, Rize) in April and May 2017 in order to determine the relationship between work values and turnover intention. The convenience sampling method was used in application of questionnaires and 400 travel agency employees participated in the research. Spearman correlation, Mann Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis analyzes were used in the analyses of data. According to the findings of the research, a positive and significant relationship was found between “Talent and Growth” dimension of wok walues and turnover intention. On the other hand, a negative and significant relationship was found between the “Status and Independence” dimension of work values and turnover intention. At the end of the research, theoretical outcomes were discussed and suggestions for travel agencies and future studies were presented.
