SPENDING HABITS OF THE STUDENTS WHO ARE REGISTERED IN THE BACHE-LOR PROGRAMMES OF PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES

Abstract
Abstract The aim of this research is to investigate the spending habits of the students who are registered in the bachelors programmes of public universities and share it’s results with univesity admi-nistrations, authorities and families.The research is conducted with 397 students who are regis-tered in various faculties of Katip Çelebi University (Faculty of Enginnering and Architecture, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of İslamic Sciences, Faculty of Den-tistry, Faculty of Tourism. While the dependent variable of the research is spending habits of students (accomodation, food, clothing, entertaintment, entertainment, transportation, smoking, personal care, boks comunication, spor and cultural actvities, alcohol, stationery, electronics, nursing, gambling), independent variables are individual characteristics of students.It is found that the stundents’ monthly average spending amount is 1261 Turkish Lira. The major spen-ding categories are found to be accomodation, food, clothing and leisure. There were statisti-cally significant difference between spending habits of the students and their gender or faculties they are registered. Male students spend more Money than female students. On the other hand students registered at Tourism Fakulty spend more more Money than other students and thhis difference is statistically meaningfull. %76,2 of students indicated that they do online shop-ping, %35 said they try to save money and %35,6 said they could not pay their credit card dept. %93,8 fo students either get university loan or scholarship.
