Investigation of Perceived Social Support Levels of University Students in Terms of Different Variables

Abstract
The aim of this study is to determine the perceived social support levels of students in physical education and sports departments. The population and sample of this study consisted of male and female students who attended Ahi Evran University and Dumlupınar University School of Physical Education and Sports and Erciyes University Faculty of Sport Science department of Physical Education and Sports Teacher Training, Coaching Education and Sports Management during the 2017-2018 academic term. The study population consisted of while the sample was comprised of 453 students. As a means of collecting data, a personal information form was used to determine the demographic characteristics of the participants and a Perceived Social Support Scale was used. The Perceived Social Support Scale, consisting of three subscales and a total of 50 items. These subscales were collected under the titles of family, teachers and friends. Cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficient was 0.93 for the total scale; it was calculated as 0,94 for the family aspect, 0,93 for the teacher aspect and 0,91 for the friend aspect. The scale has been scored in the 3-point likert type as 1 = Not appropriate for Me, 2 = Partially appropriate, 3 = Appropriate for Me. In the reliability analysis performed for our study, the Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient scale was determined as 0.93, the family subscale was 0.87 while the friend subscale was 0.90 and the teacher subscale was 0.93. Distribution, frequency, t test and Anova test were used in the comparison of the related data. While statistical analyzes showed that perceived social support levels of participants did not differ in terms of gender variables, there was a significant difference in terms of university, departmental and licensed athlete variable.
